How to Enable the File Extension Display in Windows 10
It is very easy to enable the display of the file extension in your windows explorer. In this article, I have discussed 2 methods that are applicable to Windows.
You are looking for a JPEG image file on your computer. However, when you open the file explorer you can not actually make out which one PNG and which one is JPEG.
Considering the PNG file is more heavy you specifically need the JPEG file only. But, you can not make from your file explorer unless you see the file properties.
So, I have compiled this article to provide two different sets of procedures on how to enable the display of file extension on your computer and choose the correct file each of the time.
You will be able to save more time with these set up on your computer. Follow the two different types of procedures labeled as Method 1 and Method 2.
Also, do not miss the bonus tip at the end of this article.
There are also many different methods to enable the display of the file extensions in your windows explorer. However, I have provided only two of them in detail.

Method 1
Open the control panel of your computer from your desktop app or from the start menu.
Click on Appearance and Personalization.
Note: If you are not able to find the icon, search for the File Explorer Options in the search field.
Click on File Explorer Options.
On the File Explorer Options pop-up window, click on the View tab.
Clear the Hide extensions for known file types indicator.
Click on Apply and then OK.

Method 2
Press Windows + E on your keyboard to open the file explorer.
Switch to the View tab.
Click on the Options button.
Click on the Change folder and search option.
On the File Explorer Options pop-up window, click on the View tab.
Clear the Hide extensions for known file types indicator.
Click on Apply and then OK.

Result: The file extension is displayed in all the file explorer windows that you open.
Bonus Tip
On the File Explorer window, you can switch to the View tab.
Select Details as to the layout. You can make out the type of files from this.
NOTE: The file type (file extension) can be also determined from the Type column when it’s enabled.
Select the File name extensions in the Show/hide section. It is a shortcut. Refer to the grab above.
