My Job Review | Technical Writing | Collins Aerospace

This is a job review feedback of two technical writers working with Collins Aerospace.

Collins Aerospace, a unit of Raytheon Technologies Corp. 

Collins Aerospace is a leader in technologically advanced and intelligent solutions for the global aerospace and defense industry. 

It was created in 2018 by bringing together UTC Aerospace Systems and Rockwell Collins, Collins Aerospace has the capabilities, comprehensive portfolio and expertise to solve customers' toughest challenges and to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving global market.

The persons to answer each of the questions asked below is a designated lead technical writer (P1) followed by a technical writer (P2).

I am posting this review on behalf of the 2 persons whose names are not disclosed for security reasons. 

Consider this article as a guest post and an honest job review feedback that is intended to provide you technical writing job insights working with Collins Aerospace.

• Who do you work for?

• Where is your job location?

Bangalore

• What is the domain of the products and services your company offers? Name a few products if you wish.

Aerospace.

• You are an individual or team contributor? If you are part of a team, how big is your technical writing team?

P1: My team comprises of 20 members.

 

P2: My team is of 7-8 members

Roles and Responsibilities

 

• What is your designation?

P1: Lead Technical Writer

 

P2: Technical Writer

• What are your day-in and day-out job?

P1: I used to work as a lead. My job includes project tracking, project management, work allocation, along with pre and post-project deliverables reviews.

 

P2: To create the Aerospace Documents

• List some tools and standards that you use daily? 

P1: Arbortext, SAP, FrameMaker, Tech Illustrator, Iso Draw, S1000D, etc.

 

P2: FrameMaker

 

Work Culture

 

• How much work flexibility do you get in your company?

P1: You can work Independently.

 

P2: Easy to adapt.

• Some lines about your time-off leave and leave policy.

P1: Every month you need to earn leave and then it will get credited into your account apart from casual/sick leave.

 

P2: It's good and acceptable.

 

Growth & Development

• Do you get exposure to industry best tools and practices?

P1: Yes. SAP, Project management.

 

P2: It's kinda good for exposure.

• Have you learned any skill in your current company that you feel critical for your career growth?

P2: Yeah, everyone is part of their own project planning. It helps you develop into planning.

Personal Experience

• What is the best thing you like about your company?

P1: Equality and Freedom.

P2: Work adaptability and independence.

• What is the worst thing about your company?

P1: I don't find any.

P2: Too much politics because of some poorly minded managers. Some managers are not at all adapted to their role as the growth offered in this project was quite fast and they are not at all good at their management skills. Two Managers named V**** & V**** are really very poorly skilled at management and if you are tagged under them they are really worst.

P2: Timing, Growth, independence in work.
